Orillia Hyundai has delivered 15 brand new vehicles to frontline medical workers in need. The aim of this new program is to provide brand new vehicles, free of charge, to medical staff who have been forced to change their commute during the COVID-19 pandemic. Nurses and doctors who used to take trains or carpools to work at Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital have now had to find alternative means of transportation.
“We have had a very close and positive relationship with Southlake for over 20 years now. When the pandemic hit, we knew that we had to go the extra mile this year,” said Tony Del Gobbo, dealer principal and owner of Orillia Hyundai. “The feedback we’ve been receiving from the staff has been heartwarming and we’re happy that we were able to help in our own special way.”
In the first week of the program, Orillia Hyundai delivered 10 brand new vehicles to Soldiers’ Memorial employees, all with no contact and no cost to the new drivers. Insurance and maintenance are covered by the dealer. The drivers need only pay for their own fuel. The dealership is scheduled to deliver four more vehicles this week.
“We always encourage our dealers to act locally and help their communities in their own ways. Tony has really gone above and beyond with this program. It’s a great example of people stepping up during times of need,” said Don Romano, president and CEO of Hyundai Auto Canada.
After seeing the positive reaction to the program, Del Gobbo, who also owns Newmarket Hyundai, has created a similar program for the workers of Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket and has successfully delivered 25 vehicles in addition to the vehicles delivered in Orillia.
